Food Magnet Rush answers a question the rest of the arcade only raises: what if the magnet were not a power-up but the whole game? Here it is a permanent ability with a charge meter. Hold the action button and food within 300 units is pulled toward your basket at up to 700 units per second. The meter drains at 34 per second and refills at 17.

That two-to-one ratio is the design. You can pull for roughly three seconds out of every nine, so the magnet is always available and never free. Every activation is a decision about whether this particular cluster is worth a third of your charge.

One rule makes the whole thing work: the magnet attracts food only. Hazards are completely unaffected. Without that, a pull into a crowded field would frequently drag a bomb into your basket, and the magnet would become a liability rather than a tool. With it, pulling is always safe and the only cost is the charge.

How to Play Food Magnet Rush

  1. Move the basket with ← → or A D, or drag with a finger or the mouse.
  2. Hold Space, Z or E to activate the magnet. On touch, hold the ● button.
  3. The magnet pulls food within 300 units toward the basket. Hazards are unaffected.
  4. Watch the charge meter bottom-left — it drains at 34 per second and refills at 17.
  5. Catch food to score and build your combo chain.
  6. Every ten items pulled in with the magnet pays a 250-point streak bonus.
  7. Avoid bombs, burnt food, chillies and freezer blocks.

Collection mechanics

The full food catalogue appears here, at a fall speed of 225 units per second — faster than Food Catcher but slower than Falling Food Frenzy. Hazards make up 20% of spawns at base, rising with intensity.

The basket is narrower than Food Catcher's — 82 units against 100 — because the magnet compensates for reach. That is a considered trade: a wide basket and a magnet together would remove the positioning game entirely.

Magnet pulls apply a horizontal force at full strength and a vertical force at 70%, which means the magnet is much better at dragging items sideways into your path than at slowing their fall. Understanding that asymmetry is most of the skill.

What you collect

Fruit (10 pts)Tier-1, magnetisable.
Prepared meals (25 pts)Tier-2, magnetisable.
Desserts (50 pts)Tier-3, the most valuable magnet targets.
Golden star (120 pts)Tier-4 bonus token.
Kitchen bombHazard — completely immune to the magnet.
Freezer blockHazard — also immune to the magnet.
Scorching chilliHazard, falls slightly faster than food.

Obstacles and hazards

Four hazard types fall: bombs, burnt food, chillies and freezer blocks. All are immune to the magnet, which means a pull can never drag danger into you — the only way to catch a hazard is to move the basket under it.

At 20% base hazard rate this is a busier field than Food Catcher's. Combined with the narrower basket, it means positioning still matters a great deal even with the magnet available.

The night-market backdrop is darker than the site's other catchers, which is a readability decision: the blue attraction field and the red hazard glows both need contrast to be legible at a glance.

Power-ups in this game

Food MagnetPulls nearby food toward you for 7 seconds within a 190-unit radius.
Meal MultiplierDoubles the value of everything you collect for 8 seconds.
Kitchen ShieldAbsorbs exactly one collision, then disappears. Lasts up to 12 seconds.
Food VacuumSwallows anything within 150 units outright for 5 seconds.

How scoring works

Food pays its tier value at your combo multiplier. Every ten items collected while the magnet is active pays a 250-point streak bonus, multiplied.

That streak bonus is what makes the magnet worth using rather than hoarding. Ten pulled items at ×4 pays 1,000 on top of the items themselves, which is roughly a third of a good run's total.

Items collected without the magnet do not count toward the streak, so there is a genuine incentive to pull even when you could reach the item by moving.

The combo system in Food Magnet Rush

Standard thresholds and a 3.2-second window. The magnet's real contribution to the chain is that it lets you collect items you could not physically reach, which keeps the window fed during awkward spreads.

Because tier-2 and tier-3 items break the chain when missed, and the field is dense, the magnet is often the only way to keep a high chain alive. Charge management and chain management are effectively the same problem.

Collecting the Food Magnet power-up on top of the built-in magnet raises the radius but does not refill the charge meter — they are separate systems.

Difficulty settings

Food Magnet Rush defaults to Medium. Difficulty changes fall speed, hazard proportion, lives and pickup radius. The magnet's charge rates, radius and pull strength are identical at every setting.

How each difficulty preset changes Food Magnet Rush
Easy82% speed, 20% fewer spawns, 35% fewer hazards, 4 lives, 90-second ramp and a 25% larger pickup radius.
MediumThe intended balance: full speed, standard hazard density, 3 lives, 70-second ramp.
Hard118% speed, 40% more hazards, 2 lives and a 52-second ramp.
Expert135% speed, 80% more hazards, a single life and a 38-second ramp — maximum pressure from the first second.

Tips for a higher score

  • Pull sideways, not downward. The magnet applies full horizontal force and only 70% vertical, so it is far better at dragging items into your lane than at catching falling ones.
  • Spend the charge on clusters. A three-second pull that collects six items is worth roughly six times one that collects one.
  • The streak bonus only counts magnet-collected items, so pulling an item you could have caught by moving is still worth doing.
  • Do not pull continuously. At 34 per second you will be empty in three seconds and refilling for six.
  • Hazards are immune, so pulling in a crowded field is always safe. The only risk is wasting charge.
  • Position first, pull second. The magnet is a reach extender, not a substitute for being in roughly the right place.

Features

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the magnet attract hazards in Food Magnet Rush?

No, never. The magnet affects food only. That rule is what makes pulling in a crowded field safe and the magnet a tool rather than a liability.

How long can I hold the magnet?

About three seconds from full. It drains at 34 points per second and refills at 17, so a full cycle is roughly three seconds of pull and six of recharge.

What is the magnet streak bonus?

Every ten items collected while the magnet is active pays 250 points at your combo multiplier. Items collected by moving the basket do not count toward it.

Why is the basket narrower than in Food Catcher?

Because the magnet extends your effective reach. A wide basket plus a magnet would remove positioning from the game entirely.

Does the Food Magnet power-up stack with the built-in magnet?

It increases the effective radius while active, but it does not refill or replace the charge meter. They are separate systems.

Can I play this with only a keyboard?

Yes. Arrow keys or A and D move the basket, and Space, Z or E holds the magnet. No mouse or touch input is required.
